The 1986 film of 'night, Mother starring Sissy Spacek and Anne Bancroft was directed by Tom Moore with the screenplay by Marsha Norman, based on the play. Marsha Norman was awarded the 1983 Pulitzer Prize, Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, Hull-Warriner, and Drama Desk Awards for the play 'night, Mother, which received its world premiere at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in December 1982 and then opened on Broadway in March 1983.
